A Brand New Start

So here's the deal, I created this blog about two years ago and I had intended to use it as a discussion blog for martial artists. However now my focus has changed. As an exercise science student and avid gym rat I want my 8 years of experience with weights, weight training and diets to see if I can create something useful for myself and hopefully for others. I have spent and inordinate amount of my life studying different methods of weight loss and healthy living and have combined all of my previous knowledge into this program which has been nearly three years in the making. I'm starting this new program and I am going to document my test here. So that there is some record of how well it worked. Hopefully I'll be able to take my flabby body and do something with it :) I am currently a full time student, a newlywed, and starting my own business. I figured now was the perfect time to try and incorporate this into my life while I'm at my busiest and make it work because if I can so can you. So here goes:

Purpose: My objective in this workout is to combine the muscular strength and endurance developing capabilities of traditional weight training with the full body and cardio benefits of circuit training without sacrificing time to do so. Each workout has been set at a definite set and rep ratio of 3:15. Objectively I will try to complete each individual workout in 1m15s and once I’ve reached my time and feel too little resistance I’ll up my weight and continue in that pattern for the duration of this test. Also, being a martial artist at heart I want to develop a truly functional, dense, defined musculature. So I will also be incorporating martial arts training into the “off” days of training. In order to track my progress I intend to watch the amount of weight I use in each exercise and the time in which it is performed. To hold myself accountable to the program I will record my workouts and take pictures on the 9th of each month. All of my tracking sheets and pics will be uploaded here so you guys can keep track of me and my progress and hopefully we'll all learn together. My diet will not be heavily monitored but suffice it to say that I will attempt to consume vegetables and fruits as my primary source of food with nuts and legumes providing me the protein I need and consuming very few pastas and grains and even then only whole grain ones. I will try to post every week to make sure that my progress is always updated.

So that's my story. I want to test this theory of mine that combines the effects of weight loss, muscle gain, and dieting all into one compact test. I hope that you're as excited as I am about starting this journey as I am.

P.S. Disclaimer!! I am not a certified personal trainer (yet) or a registered dietitian (yet). All of the information you read on the posts during the duration of these tests is purely my opinion and is not backed up by a certification. Additionally, always check with your physician about starting a diet or exercise program to make that it is safe for you to do so.
